Xtream Codes vs M3U: which IPTV login should you use?
Use Xtream Codes whenever your app supports it. It is three short fields instead of one long link, and it gives the app the TV guide, separate movie and series sections, catch-up and your plan details. Use the M3U link only in players that do not offer an Xtream login.
Side by side
| Xtream Codes login | M3U playlist link | |
|---|---|---|
| What you enter | Server URL, username, password | One long URL |
| Typing with a remote | Short and manageable | Error-prone |
| TV guide | Automatic | Often needs a second link |
| Movies and series | Separate VOD sections | Mixed in or missing |
| Catch-up | Supported in many apps | Rarely |
| Plan end date in app | Often shown | Not available |
| App support | Most modern IPTV apps | Almost every player, including VLC |
When M3U still makes sense
- Your player has no Xtream Codes option.
- You want to open the playlist quickly in VLC on a computer.
- You use a tool that edits or filters playlists.
With IPTV Xtream you get both
Every IPTV Xtream plan includes an Xtream Codes login and an M3U link, so you can use whichever your app needs. Setup steps are in the setup guide.
FAQ
Is Xtream Codes better than M3U?
For most people, yes. It is easier to type, loads the guide and VOD automatically, and shows account details. M3U is useful only for players that do not support Xtream Codes.
Can I use both on different devices?
Yes. They are two ways into the same subscription. Just remember one stream plays at a time on a single plan.
Why does my M3U playlist have no guide?
An M3U link usually needs a separate guide (XMLTV) link in the app. With the Xtream Codes login the guide comes automatically.
