What is Xtream Codes? IPTV logins, explained simply

Xtream Codes is the login format most IPTV services use. You get three details, a server URL, a username and a password, and your IPTV app uses them to fetch live channels, the TV guide, movies and series from the provider. It replaced long playlist links as the standard because it is easier to type and gives apps much more information.

Where the name comes from

"Xtream Codes" was originally the name of a panel software that IPTV services used to manage their accounts. The software itself is long gone, but its login method, often called the Xtream Codes API, became the common language between IPTV services and player apps. Today, when an app offers an "Xtream Codes" login, it simply means it speaks that format.

IPTV Xtream is a subscription brand. We are not connected to the original Xtream Codes software or to any app maker. We provide logins in the Xtream Codes format because it works in almost every player.

What the three fields do

FieldRole
Server URLThe address of the IPTV service the app connects to
UsernameIdentifies your subscription
PasswordConfirms it is you

With these, the app can ask the service for the channel list, the guide data, the movie and series library, and even your plan's end date.

Xtream Codes vs M3U in one paragraph

An M3U link is a single long web address pointing to a playlist file: simple, but it carries only channel names and stream addresses. An Xtream Codes login gives the app a structured connection, so it can show categories, posters, the guide and catch-up. If your app offers both, choose Xtream Codes. More detail in Xtream Codes vs M3U.

What you need to start

  • An IPTV player app that supports Xtream Codes (see compatible apps).
  • An IPTV subscription that provides an Xtream Codes login, such as IPTV Xtream.
  • A stable internet connection: about 10 Mbps for HD and 25 Mbps for 4K.
